Google’s video sharing website YouTube will now support HTML5 videos. The move comes in response to a poll where this video feature was the number one request.
HTML5 is a new web standard and using an HTML5 video player will allow movie watchers to view video without the need of a proprietary third party plugin such as Microsoft Silverlight or the ever popular Adobe Flash plugin. Not only will this speed up video streaming, but it is expected that users will suffer fewer pc crashes something that has been observed on occasion with the flash player while using Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome.
To try out the new YouTube feature, you will need to register at TestTube and be using either Apple’s Safari, Google Chrome or the Chrome frame installed within Microsoft’s Internet Explorer.
