Xerox has come out with erasable paper, a technology that allows consumers to reuse printer paper multiple times, thus reducing waste and environmental impact. The technology will be available for the public to view for the first time at WIRED NextFest, which showcases global innovation.
Xerox’s erasable paper has a chemical coating that reacts with light at specific wavelengths. When the paper is exposed to that wavelength of light, it produces visible text. However, this text is temporary and within 24 hours, the text will disappear, making the paper reusable.
According to Xerox’s own studies, 40% of all office printouts are temporary prints that are discarded the same day.
