Xeros Virtually waterless washing machine

Washing machines use an incredible amount of water to clean cloths, placing strain on environmental resources as well as on the pocket book. Let’s face it, although there have been advances in this technology, there really hasn’t been a drastic change to this appliance since it’s development. At least not yet. Xeros, is a revolutionary concept in washing machine technology created by Professor Stephen Burkinshaw which is expected to roll out in 2009.

Xeros uses only 1 cup of water per load of laundry, which works out to less then 2 percent of the water requirements of everyday washing machine. With a Xeros washing machine, 20 kgs of reusable chips and 1 cup of water are used to clean the cloths. In tests that were performed, it was shown that the chips were highly successful in removing all kinds of stains from clothing such as lipstick as well as food stains.

With only 1 cup of water per load of laundry, the clothes come out of the washing machine essentially dry, which means that the dryer will be an obsolete product, and not to worry, these reusable chips can be used up to 100 times which for the average consumer will last about six months.
