Xbox 360 Update Disables Unauthorized Memory Units

Xbox 360 Memory Units

Next week, preview program members will start receiving a Microsoft Xbox 360 update. In advance of that, the majornelson website has provided an advisory that one of the effects of this change is to disable unauthorized memory chips.

If you are using an unlicensed chip for storing your personal profile or game backups, the recommended course of action is to move this data back to an approved Xbox 360 storage device prior to the update as this data will be lost post update.

Those with an Xbox 360 that comes with a built-in hard drive can simply move their data onto this storage device. However your Xbox does not have a HDD, then you will need to buy a licensed unit which carries the seal “Licensed for Xbox 360″ somewhere on the packaging or unit itself.
