World of Warcraft 2010

Blizzard Entertainment, a division of Activision Blizzard and creator of the hugely popular World of Warcraft online game franchise, recently kicked up a storm at their Blizzcon conference when it announced a new expansion pack, called World of Warcraft: Cataclysm, will make its debut in 2010.

If you’ve been living under a rock for the past five years, World of Warcraft is arguably the most popular video game in history, with a following of almost 12 million paying customers worldwide. Cataclysm will be the third add-on to the game so far. The first one, 2007’s The Burning Crusade, sold 2.4 million copies in a single day. The second, last November’s Wrath Of The Lich King, sold 2.8 million on its opening day, making it the best single-day seller in PC game history.

Cataclysm will let players level up their characters to level 85, as well as try out a brand new race (the Werewolves). Hardcore Blizzard fans will stay busy for a long time when Cataclysm comes out next year, especially with Starcraft II also waiting in the wings.

Blizzard’s competitors are also watching the release dates of Blizzard’s two new games – if only to know when not to release their own games!
