Microsoft Windows 7

Rumour has it that upgrading to Microsoft Window 7 will be possible using USB drives. Currently Windows 7 is only available as an upgrade through retail and through download to Microsoft users using either Windows XP or Vista.

The USB key upgrade path makes it possible to have the latest Windows operating system without having to go out and buy a new computer.

The advantage of offering a Windows upgrade via USB key is that netbooks that do not have DVD drives will be able to gain install the new OS. Furthermore, USB drive installs are considerably faster then DVD installs. On the flip side however, USB drives are more expensive to manufacture.

For those who own a netbook, the USB drive installation option will solve their problem of obtaining Windows 7 as the USB key makes it easy to install the new operating system. Without the USB drive option, many netbook users will turn to tech support and computer experts to install the operating system for them.

A Microsoft spokesperson admits they “can’t confirm the rumour – we don’t have information to share about this.” It looks like when it comes to Windows 7 on USB keys, the public will just have to wait and see.
