The next big thing with search engines is real time search. Search engines generally have a slight delay before online content becomes available in their respective search indexes. By adding real time content, search engines have the ability to bring breaking news, blog posts and public comments as they happen.

This of course is where the 140 character micro-blogging site Twitter comes into play. Twitter has this wealth of digital data that the search engines crave and as such, both Google and Microsoft(Bing) are said to be in negotiations to integrate Twitter feeds into their search results. There have also been other rumors that both search engines are looking buy Twitter outright.

As it stands right now, Twitter is holding all of the cards. They have been valued at over $1 billion and have received an additional $50 million in funding. If and when this deal is done, Twitter will simply garner an even larger web presence, not to mention the monetary gains as well.
