Motorola hasn’t been doing too well lately, but then again, few have been in the mobile phone industry. But the guys at Motorola hope that their latest offering will change that – enter the Cliq, Motorola’s first ever Android phone.
Android is Google’s mobile operating system, and is head-to-head with OS’s from Blackberry and Apple in terms of functionality and flexibility. The Cliq will feature 3G, a QWERTY keyboard, a 5MP camera, WiFi, GPS, a 3.5mm headphone jack, and a 3.1-inch touchscreen.
The Cliq comes with a potential sore point, though – it only has 512MB internal memory, with expandable MicroSD memory up to 32GB. While Palm and the other mobile phone manufacturers have phones with at least 8GB internal storage, Cliq might be making a huge mistake.
But on the other hand, the Cliq has features that can put even the Apple iPhone to shame. More and more people interact on social media platforms on their mobile phones today, and the Cliq has a feature that lets users update all their social networks in one screen. This kind of multitasking is something even the iPhone can’t do.
The Cliq will ship as the “Dext” outside the United States, and while it’s not expected to be a gamebreaker in the industry, it’s hoped that it’s a sign of better things to come from once-powerful Motorola.
