The recent Nintendo (TYO:7974) media summit in San Francisco was the source of information for a number of Nintendo developments that are in the works. For Nintendo fans, probably one of the biggest pieces of information to be revealed was a launch date for their new large screen Nintendo DSi XL that features dual displays that are 93% larger then its predecessor.
We also knew that Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid: Other M, two popular Nintendo games were going to be released this year, around the “mid year” time frame. What we didn’t have was information about a possible release date for the Legend Of Zelda, that is until now.
Recently, Cammie Dunaway, Nintendo America VP of marketing and sales, sat down for a Q&A session with Wired. Apparently, Wired had made a bet for a steak dinner that the gaming company would not release Zelda, Super Mario Galaxy 2 and Metroid: Other M in the same year. When the topic of the bet came up, Dunaway implied that Wired would be buying dinner.
She went on to say that their software development cycle is not determined by the calendar for release dates. Rather, once the development team is satisfied with the product and it’s quality, the video game is then released and this year, the entire Nintendo team has worked extremely hard to ensure the presence of a strong lineup.
Dunaway continued to say “And from some of the things that Mr. Iwata has talked about, and that we will talk about at E3, like Zelda, you know that we’re going to have a good back half of the year, as well.”
It should be an interesting year for gaming fans if Nintendo manages to release all three of its flagship properties this year.
