Rumors are abound within the gaming industry that Nintendo is in development of the next generation of Wii. According to the website What They Play, the new Wii console, appropriately named Wii HD, is expected to hit markets in 2011 and that early prototypes of the product are now being shown in select corporate presentations.
If rumors are correct, the biggest change on the new Wii console will be the introduction of HD support, which only makes sense considering that this is the direction that the market is moving towards. Other features may include local storage on the unit, either in the form of a flash drive or perhaps a hard drive.
Keeping with the tradition of Wii, it is expected that Wii HD will be backwards compatible and the emphasis will again be on the physical interaction of the player with the unit through body movements.
