Western Digital has come out with two 2.5-inch hard drives. The highlight of today’s announcement is that one of the laptop drives has broken the 1TB storage capacity threshold, a first in mobile hard drive technology. The two drives make up part of the Scorpio Blue SATA drive collection, with the second drive announcement this morning being 750GB in capacity.
In addition to being used as notebook drives, Western Digital is also promoting them as portable storage solutions in My Passport or for use in small form factor desktop PCs where a quiet drive is necessary.
Both new drives have a 12.5 mm form factor, 3Gb/s transfer speeds and include WisperDrive technology as well as ShockGuard technology, the latter using both firmware and hardware advancements to protect the drives from shock damage.
The MSRP for the WD Scorpio Blue 750GB (model WD7500KEVT) and 1TB (model WD10TEVT) drives are $189.99 and $249.99 respectively.
