Wacom, known amongst graphic designers for their pen tablets has added a new wireless tablet to its folio, the Intuos 4. The new pen tablet includes a highly sought feature in the form of wireless Bluetooth technology. With an effective range up to 33 feet or 10 meters, the tablet offers the designer portability and can be used in a variety of situations such as in a home office or in a remote meeting.
The wireless tablet is similar to other medium sized wired Wacom tablets and includes an asymmetric design with customizable ExpressKeys and a Touch Ring situated on one side of the tablet. The tablet can also be adjusted from left handed to right handed use by rotating the tablet by 180-degrees and repositioning the icons using the included Wacom software drivers.
The tablet battery in this device is rated for 18 hours, although this is not continuous use. Something to be aware of and highlighted in the owners manual is that you could end up with a dead battery if proper care of your tablet is not maintained.
If the battery charge is low and the battery remains in the tablet for a long period of time (a week or longer) with the power switch in the on position, the small trickle of current used by the tablet is likely to discharge the battery so far that an internal protection circuit within the battery is activated. If this occurs you will no longer be able to charge the battery.
Should this occur, a replacement battery will run you somewhere between $39-$49.
The new Wacom Intuos 4 Wireless Tablet is available at a retail price of $399.
