For customers that have an Android phone that will support Android 4.1 or Jelly Bean, there is some excitement to have the new Android version pushed down to their smartphone. Vodafone Australia had in fact planned on pushing Jelly Bean out to Nexus S handsets on its wireless network, but in a turn of events, the rollout has been stopped.

The reason behind this stoppage is the fact that the new update does not meet the national regulatory requirements as it pertains to making emergency calls. The confirmation of this news was posted on the Vodafone website and there is no indication at this time as to just when the rollout will commence again. Essentially, when new hardware or software becomes available, the mobile carrier will run the updates across a battery of tests to ensure that they are in accordance with all local laws and regulations. When it comes to software updates, one of the larger challenges is meeting the ability to make emergency calls.

If you live within Australia and want to get the latest information on this topic, keep a close watch on the Vodaphone blog where company representatives have promised to post accurate and timely information as it becomes available.
