Richard Branson and Virgin’s new project seems to have the plot line for an upcoming James Bond movie. On February 20th, the billionaire entrepreneur will be launching his latest luxury vessel, the Necker Nymph.
The Necker Nymph is different from other sea going vessels in that it is being described as an underwater plane. The boat which is capable of launching from either land or sea uses a downward force applied on the wings in order to move through the ocean for up to two hours. Cruising speeds on the Nymph are between 2 to 5 nautical miles per hour and the boat (plane) can reach depths up to 100 feet.
The Nymph is capable of carrying two passengers as well as a pilot and during the voyage, passengers will be treated to a 360-degree underwater panoramic view. As part of the safety regulations and requirements, both riders will be required to follow standard suba procedures as well as be trained or accompanied by a certified pilot.
If you guessed this isn’t going to be cheap, you are correct. The underwater plane is available to rent at $25,000 per week for guests that are staying at Richard Branson’s luxury property called Necker Island. A one week stay at this private island will add an extra $300,000 to the final bill.
The only question left is who is the Bond girl?
