ViewSonic’s Android Tablet Is The ViewPad 7

Another new entry into the Android tablet market is ViewSonic View who has announced the hardware specifications of their ViewPad 7, a 7-inch Google Android tablet that will be shown off at the IFA trade fair that is being held in Berlin, Germany this year. The Android tablet market is crowded to say the least and for ViewSonic to break into the market, they need a marketing ploy tablet and it seems that they do have one.

The ViewPad 7 functions as a rather large mobile phone which is a full 2-inches larger then the former champ, the Dell Streak. As a mobile phone, ViewSonic has not skimped, ensuring that it has all the basic features including 3G support with voice calls as well as MMS and texting. Interestingly enough, the Android tablet also has a full sized SIM card so it begs the question if ViewSonic plans to partner up with strategic mobile carriers or if they plan to go SIM free?

The ViewPad 7 which runs on Google Android OS 2.2 (Froyo) also has a front VGA camera that has been designed for voice over ip (VoIP) video calls. There is also a rear facing 3MP digital camera as well as the standard wireless support for Bluetooth and WiFi as there is also GPS. The unit comes with a single USB data port and a microSD card slot for adding more memory.

The ViewPad 7 can function as an electronic book reader, office document reader and also comes with hand-written note functionality. The tablet will go on sale in October for $540.
