Now here’s a device that came several years too late — the USB Key Impressioner. This is a device that basically maps out the interior of an old-fashioned lock and saves the information in digital format, which can later be used by a key cutter to create a key for said lock. Should be useful when you accidentally lock your keys in the car.
Besides that, though, I’m stumped. You can’t really use the device if you have a car that uses microchip keys and advanced lock systems. If you’re running an old Ford, or if you own a used Ford dealership, this may come in handy.
It’s not a quick process either, so if you’re thinking you can steal old cars with this device, you won’t be “gone in 60 seconds.” It’s probably a good thing that this device isn’t available to the public, otherwise car insurance companies are going to be in an uproar.
If the USB Key Impressioner came out, say, ten years ago, it would probably have seen a more glorious following. Right now, though, it’s a totally different story.
