Toshiba has elected to throw their hat into the ring by announcing their own USB 3.0 external hard drive. The Toshiba Canvio 3.0 HD is available in storage capacities between 500GB and 1TB.
Many of the features of the new Toshiba hard drive are the same as what can be found on other USB 2.0 models, but of course this new drive comes with the faster speed interface which could prove beneficial if you have large data files on your computer, assuming that your pc has a USB 3.0 interface.
In addition to the Canvio drive, Toshiba will also throw in some software as the drives come preloaded with NTI BackupNow EZ which is a backup utility for PC owners only (sorry Mac users). The drives also support 256-bit data encryption to keep your personal files personal and there is also a series of shock sensors as well as monitoring tools.
The drive prices will of course depend upon drive size with the smallest one, the 500GB selling for $119.99. Next up is the 750GB at $129.99 and the biggest drive is the 1TB at $179.99.
