US Google TV Launch Coming This Month

The chipmaker Intel, one of the partners in the Google TV project has indicated that a launch of this new service will be this month and the reason for this may just be Apple TV.

In the tablet market, companies are scrambling to get their tablets out in order to compete with Apple who has a strong foothold in this market. In the fight for the TV market, Google doesn’t want to be behind Apple.

In a conversation with the Wall Street Journal, Paul Otellini, Intel’s CEO, commented that we will see Google TV “this month”, though he didn’t reveal in what form the service would arrive. There are two options that are possible. The first is brand new TV sets that will come with Google TV integrated within it, while the second format consists of a companion box such as the LG Revue.

Otellini went on to speak about their own involvement with this project stating that Intel has written nearly 5 million lines of code or roughly half of all the code that is within GTV.
