Depleting current inventories of stock is usually a sign for a product refresh and if that situation remains true today, we may be getting close to the launch of a new addition to the Google Nexus 7 line-up.
There are some indications from the United Kingdom that local retailers have begun to discount the 16GB tablet model. In fact, one of the more popular retailers across the pond, Comet, has brought the price of their tablets down from £199 to £179.99, a discount of £19.01. With this news, there was some checking around at US retailers to see if the same held true and unfortunately, this is not the case with US retailers still selling the 16GB model for $249.
However, the fact that we are seeing the start of a price drop has led many to believe that a 32GB Nexus 7 is on the way. This is further fueled by the fact that there have been similar rumours regarding this tablet in the past. In fact, recently, Staples Advantage did have a listing on their website for business owners that had the 32GB Nexus 7 selling for $248.37.
Of course, Google has not come out to confirm that they are indeed launching a 32GB model, but when we see that Apple now has their own iOS tablets available with the base model starting at 16GB, it does seem that an 8GB Nexus 7 is on the weak side. Eliminating this in favour of a 16GB model seems even more likely.
