HTC Hero owners that reside within the United Kingdom will have begun to receive an OTA update that brings Android 2.1 to the HTC phone. Unlike the Sprint HTC EVO 4G update which consisted of a small download size but was subsequently stopped, the HTC Hero update is quite large, weighing in at 79.88MB.

As such, the recommended course of action is to perform the file transfer using a WiFi network connection, even if you have an unlimited data plan. The new update is said to offer HTC Hero owners functionality that is similar to another HTC phone, the HTC Legend. Although this update will not erase the personal contents of your phone, ensuring your apps remain intact, it is of course a good practice to perform a backup of any essential data that you can’t afford to lose.
