It’s well known that Research In Motion has been working on a Twitter client for Blackberry users for some time now and over the last little while, there has been some reference to this client eluded to in tweets as well as at various launch parties. It looks like we are a real step closer to a public launch of a BB Twitter client as RIM has announced the client is available as a beta release to a limited number of subscribers.
It is an invitational only offer, so if you are one of those on the list, you’ll be able to download the Blackberry application from here. It’s expected that the beta testing will run for a period of about one month after which a full public launch is likely, barring no serious flaws or security issues being identified and warranting a bug patch.
For those that don’t have an invite to download the software, you can at least keep up with the news by signing up at their dedicated information page.
From the looks of it, the Twitter client will initially be available in six languages, English, Spanish, Italian, French, German and Brazilian Portuguese with more language support likely down the road. It also appears that the Blackberry Twitter client will give fans of this social networking site all of the access that they have come to love and appreciate including:
- Sending Tweets, replying to Tweets
- Sending and receiving direct messages
- Posting links using the Blackberry Browser
- Follow/unfollow Twitter users
- Search the Twitter stream
