Apple’s iPhone 3GS is one of the hottest items on the market but that does not mean Steve Jobs and company are taking a break from their ongoing attempts to takeover the cell phone world. According to recent reports, Apple has recently filed patents for three new features for their iPhone 4.0 – an RFID reader, fingerprint scanning and haptic feedback. These new features will make the latest iPhone the most advanced yet.
So what will these three devices do to enhance the iPhone even more? Fingerprint screening will ensure that fiddlers do not mess with your iPhone. Fingerprint scanning is certainly more advanced and more convenient than using a personal PIN but it is not impossible to break, nor is it really necessary for the average cell phone user.
Haptic feedback will allow users to feel movement on their phone, similar to the technology installed on the BlackBerry Storm. Haptic feedback will make use of “piezoelectronic actuators” that will be installed under the touchscreen so users will feel vibrations when they move items around on the screen.
Finally, an RFID reader would allow iPhone users to detect embedded RFID chips. The patent would place the RFID scanner below the iPhone screen. The purpose of this is up for speculation as Apple has not publicly revealed their plans, but one thing is for sure and that is that Apple is making their product a must have item.
