Designer Damjan Stanković has come up with a concept idea on how he’d like to change the traffic lights seen at intersections. Waiting around for a light to turn green can be a bit frustrating, especially if you’re stuck in rush hour traffic. Wouldn’t it be nice to know just how much time is left before that traffic light turns green?

Stankovic envisions a day when stop lights will come with a progress bar that will count down the time remaining before the light changes to green. His design change, if implemented would result in less road rage and frustration. As well, Stankovic believes the idea to be environmentally friendly because if drivers know that it will be a while before the light changes color, they’ll simply turn off their ignition. I’m not sure about this last one, I don’t think I’ve ever been at a stop light long enough to ever consider turning off the vehicle.

In any regards, it is a good idea that reminds me of a bit of the intelligent traffic lights proposed by the Travolution project. If it results in less driver stress, I’m all for it but for true energy saving ideas why not integrate this design idea with the solar powered traffic light. Now that would be a cool idea.
