Although officials on behalf of Toshiba have been unusually quiet on this, the rumor is that the computer maker is planning on releasing a new 13-inch notebook computer.
The notebook will put a real emphasis on portable computing and with a weight of just over 2lbs, even with a solid state drive (SSD), this will be the world’s lightest 13-inch laptop. The Toshiba laptop will come with standard hardware specifications like a Core i3, i5 or i7 processor chip, 4GB RAM, 500GB hard disk drive (optional 512GB SSD), USB 3.0 support and 16:9 aspect ratio.
This does seem like fairly standard laptop hardware, so the question is how did they manage to reduce the weight? The answer is in the battery which will be replaced with a newer super charged ion battery or SCiB. This fast charging battery can be charged to 90% capacity in just under 10 minutes. Other savings in overall weight have been gained through a new honeycomb ribbed design structure that is being deployed.
