TomTom has announced the first in-car navigation system designed to work with the Apple iPhone. The announcement was made at Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference which was held in San Francisco yesterday.
As part of the announcement, Peter-Frans Pauwels, a co-founder of TomTom indicated that the new GPS navigation system will consist of two parts:
- Mobile navigation software configured for the Apple that will include IQ Routes and current road maps by Tele Atlas.
- A hands free car kit that will work as a secure iPhone dock and an in-car charger, thereby permitting hands free calling through voice commands.
Although a definitive date has not been set, you will be able to download the TomTom application through the iTunes app store this summer and the product launch will coincide with the release of Apple’s OS 3.0 operating system.
