Cooling Thermahelm Motorcycle Helmet

Motorcycle helmets have saved countless lives in the past, but there have been instances when they failed to protect the rider well enough. This almost happened to Jullian Preston-Powers, who immediately thought of creating a helmet that could keep an injured rider alive long enough for help to arrive — and it’s called ThermaHelm.

Preston-Powers once figured in an accident, and while waiting for emergency help to arrive, one of his friends put ice cubes in his helmet. The cooling effect soothed the injury to a surprising extent, leading Preston-Powers to develop something that could save more people from road accidents.

The ThermaHelm contains two chemical packs, one with ordinary water and the other with ammonium nitrate. An impact would cause a chemical reaction between the two packs, producing a cooling effect that lasts 45 minutes.

Cooling the brain can slow trauma and prevent long-term damage, and also keep the head safe from further injury. Getting your own ThermaHelm will set you back around US$489 — a little steep for a helmet, perhaps, but worth every penny if you ever get into a mishap on the road.
