We’ve seen lot’s of unusual clocks and interesting timepieces but the water clock is one of the more elegant yet simple clocks that we’ve seen.

the water clock

Designed by Kouichi Okamoto, the ceramic base contains 2 strong magnetic spheres that continually rotate. These spheres attract 2 colored balls that are placed on top of the base.

The red ball symbolizes the hour hand while the white ball is the minute hand. Depending upon the position of the balls, you can then tell the exact time. What’s cool about this design is the balls are also buoyant and will float in water.

Hence, if you want to make your own custom clock, fill up your favorite bowl with water and the colored balls and place over the ceramic base. The options to customize your clock are endless, you can use crystal clear water and fine china for a pure clock, or use a different set of dishes and colored liquid to create a grunge look.

The Water Clock retails for $299.
