With another school year wrapping up, you can bet that families will be planning their summer vacations. Even under the very best of circumstances, flying is not always the most enjoyable experience, with tight seating arrangements, poor food, long flights, jet lag, flight delays etc.
Although irritating, all of these are manageable. What I know a lot of people find challenging is sitting next to a mother and a newborn, especially if that newborn is in a bad mood and begins crying.
Often times, the flight personnel will recognize this and I’ve seen on some occasions when a flight is not full, they will move the mother and child to an empty section of the plane. This allows them to spread out and it also reduces the discomfort of the other passengers.
It’s when the flight is full and no other options are available, what do you do when you sit next to a child? There’s not much you can do, but if you see a child wearing one of these “Congratulations, you get to sit next to me” shirts, it’ll at least get you to smile and recognize the irony of the situation.
