When it comes to dating, most people believe that first impressions are everything. In an effort to impress your date, prior to his/her arrival, you’ll go through the dating ritual which includes showering, perusing through your closet for the perfect outfit, putting some cologne/perfume on. For some, the ritual is endless.
According to GenePartner, finding the right life partner is much more then just appearance. In fact, it’s far more then appearance, it’s actually chemical. As such, GenePartner has launched their own dating service which will match prospective couples up based upon their HLA (human leukocyte antigen) molecules.
The rationale behind using the HLA molecule is the results of a study completed by Dr. Wedekind at the University of Bern in Switzerland. To briefly summarize his study, he found that the HLA molecules release odors and that prospective couples tend to pick partners who’s HLA odor is most different from their own. I guess it really is true that opposites attract.
Based upon this, GenePartner measures the genetic compatibility of two individuals in assessing their likelihood to having a successful romantic relationship.
