The No Waste Ecofriendly PrePeat Desktop Printer

Many businesses have an office policy that tries to promote a reduction in their carbon footprint as well as places an emphasis on becoming a green office that recycles and reuses as much as possible. Sometimes, this is easier said then done. Although email and the transmission of electronic documents amongst office staff may reduce paper usage, there is still a strong need to print documents, even if it just for a temporary basis such as presentation notes to be used in an office meeting.

Some time back, we reviewed the $95,000 Japanese office machine that recycles copier paper, converting it into toilet paper and today we hear about another cool Japanese invention the, the PrePeat desktop printer.

This desktop printer is ideal for a green office as it requires no ink cartridges or plastic. Prepeat uses a special print head as well as heat sensitive plastic sheets upon which documents are printed. Once you’re done with your document, you can erase the contents on the plastic page and reuse them for your next print job. The plastic sheets are rated for about 1000 uses.

Each PrePeat desktop printer costs about $5517 and a lot of 1000 plastic sheets will add another $3,300 to the bottom line. With these prices, PrePeat may not be the best printer option for a small home office or business, but it could be viable solution for a bigger office where large print jobs are the norm. I leave it for the bean counters to run their cost savings analysis on this.
