Honda Research announced a new technology known as the Brain Machine Interface (BMI).

Honda Brain Machine Interface

BMI allows humans to control robots through electroencephalography (EEG), near-infrared spectroscopy (NIRS) and an information extraction technology. During the thought process, subtle changes in cerebral blood flow and electrical currents take place just under the scalp and Honda has developed a way to turn these changes into robot actions.

Put another way, robots are controlled using “mind power techniques” and the use of a special mind control helmet. All the user needs to do is think what body part (left hand, right hand, tongue or feet) of the android to control. The movements are basic at this time, so you won’t be seeing the Evolution Of Dance robot style just quite yet.

Honda claims that they have achieved the world’s highest accuracy level for tests done with the ASIMO humanoid robot. This robot is able to correctly follow 90% of the commands delivered to it from it’s human overseer.
