With CD prices being so cheap, many people end up with massive piles of used CDs and nothing to do with them. Over time, these CDs collect in boxes that are stored in the darkest corners of the attic. Disposing of them with a CD shredder is one way to securely discard unwanted data, but if you’re not overly concerned about the contents of the CDs and are looking for an innovative do it yourself project, consider making a set of dumbbells with them.
This DIY project is really easy. There are no tools required, you only need 150 CDs, a threaded rod and bolts. Once you’ve gathered all the parts, simply thread the CDs, 75 on each side, and bolt it down tightly on all sides. How simple was that?
150 CDs is what it takes to make a 10 pound weight. That’s not bad for 10 minutes of work, plus you’ll have some interesting and unusual dumbbells that you can use to do arm curls. Now, if you really want to make a statement, see if you can collect enough CDs, 1500 of those shiny things, to make a 100 pound bar for the bench press. Happy collecting!
