TDK is a company that’s known to go the extra mile with the technology it has in its hands. Just a few months ago we learned that the company plans to create laptop drives with capacities of upwards of 960GB and desktop drives with over three times that storage space – 3.2TB. But even such lofty ambitions isn’t enough.
The media storage media company is also looking at creating a 10-layer, 320GB disc. What’s more, they’re making it possible to read and write on such a disc with the same technology used on Blu-ray Discs. With the technology in place, it won’t take long before we see this behemoth of a disc hit store shelves.
TDK is so confident about the 320GB Disc that it plans to showcase it next week in Japan, at the CEATEC trade show. Of course, there’s no word on availability and pricing as early as now, which leaves many of us wondering – will these discs cost as much as their hard-drive counterparts?
Hard to say, but as long as it’s reliable and commercially available, it should make many of us in digital media happy. Of course, with the exception of Blu-ray itself…
