Google Voice

After a much anticipated wait, Google users are happy to see that Google Voice services are finally going live. Those who have registered on their website since March are the first to get in on the goods.

So what is Google Voice? Google Voice is the product of Google’s March 2007 takeover of GrandCentral and allows users to unify their phone numbers. Google Voice allows a call through to all their numbers and also includes features such as call transfer between a user’s devices, multi-party conferencing, conversion of voice calls to text messages, cut-rate international calling and call transcription.

Google Voice will also be integrated with a user’s Gmail contact list making it even easier to stay connected to all personal and business contacts. The service is free and is revolutionizing the way in which users can communicate.

The public have been eagerly awaiting their chance to get on board the service and it appears users are finally getting their chance.
Director of digital and education communications for PBS, Kevin Dando raves “I’ve only been using Google Voice for a few months, but it’s completely changed the way I use voicemail and communicate in general.”

Google will send their users an invitation that allows them to pick a number that can be personalized. Google suggests that users “see if you can find a number that contains your name, a specific word or a number combination.”

Dando believes that “the rush to grab Google Voice numbers is going to be stunning. I know some of my friends check the Google Voice page almost every day to see when they can grab a number and start using it.”

It appears that the wait is finally over.
