The Steampunk Keyboard

Written by Mike James

Steampunk art has a strong following and a designer named Markus created his keyboard mod known as the steampunk keyboard.

This cool keyboard was encased within a wood frame and not just any wood, but old wood from unwanted furniture. The wood itself is over 80 years and has scratches, nicks as well as wormholes which add to the character of this DIY project.

The finished product looks great. The keyboard has that antique look to it, almost as if it is some strange device from the Victorian era.

World’s First Machine Washable Keyboard

Written by Mike James

Studies have shown that keyboards are one of the dirtiest devices around and in some cases, are even more dirty then toilets. Part of the problem is that they can be hard to clean thoroughly as a quick blow from a can of air or a wipe down with a moist cloth can only do so much. Wouldn’t it be so nice if you could just throw your keyboard in the dishwasher to give it a good clean.

No-Key Flat Glass Keyboard by Kong Fanwen

Written by Mike James

Kong Fanwens No Key Flat Glass Keyboard

Kong Fanwen has come out with a winning concept design with his No Key Flat Glass Keyboard. This keyboard consists of an ultra thin piece of glass onto which is etched the letters of the keyboard. The keyboard is illuminated by a source of light which is used to shine through the keyboard. A mounted camera recognizes your finger positions on the keyboard and transmits this data into recognizable keystrokes to the workstation.

One of the nice things about this keyboard is there are no physical keys to worry about. This means less service calls due to sticky keys and there is no longer a worry about bits of food getting stuck and “growing” in between the keys. Hopefully with this great design will come the ease of cleaning with just a simple wipe of a damp cloth.
