The Hang It On hard drive enclosure is a drive enclosure that allows you to hang a 2.5″ hard drive off of the back of the LCD screen of a laptop. By doing so, you’re able to add extra storage capacity to what the internal hard drive currently has and the design will allow you to work in areas where you may have limited desk space.

The world’s thinnest external hard drive was announced by Buffalo Tech. Dubbed the Shinobi portable hard drive, this drive is a mere 5mm (0.2 inches) in thickness and weighs in at just 2 oz. Although small and light, the Shinobi drive is packed with features including backup and sync software, mobile applications such as Firefox and Thunderbird for mobile internet access, as well as the patented SecureLockMobile, a feature that restricts access to the contents of the drive should it be lost or stolen. Transfer speeds are anticipated to be 20% faster then standard currently available drives due to TurboUSB technology.

Toshiba has announced the design of the first dual platter hard drive (MK2431GAH). At a mere 1.8 inches, the Toshiba drive is just barely taller then a standard AA battery, yet comes with a storage capacity of either 240GB (MK2431GAH), 120 GB (K1231GAL) or 80 GB (MK8031GAL) depending upon the model.

On a regular basis, it seems that there are new versions of hard drives that are coming to the market, and with each version, you’re seeing greater miniaturization and increased storage capacity. The same holds true for the Freecom hard drives that are expected to hit the UK markets soon.
