T-Mobile UK had a Mobile Internet data plan that was capped at 3GB/month. The plan appealed to mobile users who were on the move and enjoyed streaming video content. The problem is that this plan may have put a strain on the network’s bandwidth and capacity as T-Mobile UK has confirmed that they are reducing the cap on this plan to 500MB.
Mobile users that exceed the cap will be restricted from using their mobile phones for high bandwidth functions such as downloading content, playing video games or streaming movies across the Internet. However, these users will not be prevented from performing lower bandwidth activities like reading email or browsing the Internet.
T-Mobile does expect that there will be some backlash from their new policy and understandably so because they are taking services away and in preparation for the complaints, the mobile carrier also included the rationale for this move as part of todays press release.
We do have a fair use policy but ours is there to make sure we deliver the best service possible to all our customers. This means that you’ll always be able to browse the internet…If you want to download, stream and watch video clips, save that stuff for your home broadband.
Mobile users that may need more bandwidth may have to review some of the other plans that are available with T-Mobile. Will you be impacted by this change and if so, have you given any thought on how you will deal with it?
