T-Mobile Gets iPhone 3GS, Not iPhone 4 This Year

Within the tech industry, rumors seem to crop up every single day and simple conversations that take place between two people can take on a life of their own. Some of these rumors like the launch of the Samsung Galaxy Tab get official confirmation from the manufacturer, while other rumors eventually just die down.

One rumor that just doesn’t seem to want to die is about the iPhone being available through the US mobile carrier T-Mobile. It’s pretty much a given that Apple (AAPL) wants to expand beyond AT&T and offer their iPhone through multiple mobile carriers, but in order to do so, they need to find a resolution to the exclusive contract that they have signed with AT&T which carries some large penalties if it is cancelled before 2012.

However, it’s very possible that Apple may have found a loophole that will bring the iPhone to a new mobile carrier as a recent tweet by Chris Anderson from Wired states “A T-Mobile manager casually mentioned to me that they’re going to get the iPhone 3GS (but not 4, oddly) later this year. Common knowledge?”

As always, take this with a grain of salt, after all, this is just a rumor. It could be that the T-Mobile manager was incorrect with his information or possibly something else altogether. If the rumor does turn out to be correct, there’s not much time left before the holiday season begins and T-Mobile will probably want to start advertising this information as soon as possible, so stay tuned, there could be more to come.
