Surface Tablet Sales Appear Strong, Shipping Gets Delayed

Microsoft is looking for a quick start for their Surface tablet, especially when you consider the fact that they are playing catch up to both Google and Apple, two companies that have managed to carve out a pretty large slice of the tablet pie.

Though it is still extremely early in the game for Microsoft, there is some news that can be viewed as potentially positive for the Redmond company. It would appear that sales for the Surface tablet have been strong enough to push back the shipping time to 3 weeks. This is for the 32GB model that is selling for $499 and does not include the Touch Cover with keyboard.

Now, we don’t know just how many tablets are in the pipeline but the shipping delays do suggest that there was some interest in the Microsoft product with current supply levels now dwindling. Those that don’t mind spending a little more money to avoid the delays can spend an additional $100 and pick up the $599 32GB model which has a Touch Cover. This model is shipping on time which means that it will ship in 9 days, on October 26th. This is a bit of a bizarre situation as the scenario does indicate that there are tablets for sale, just that the company will not sell them without a Touch Cover.
