Everywhere these days, we’re seeing the emergence of 3D technology — in PC’s, in professional cameras, in HDTV’s, in gaming consoles, etc. It really is the technology of the next few years — which leaves Sony (NYSE:SNE) itching to come up with their own 3D digital camera offering very soon.
Masashi Imamura, group president for Sony’s Personal Imaging and Sound Business, recently expressed their plans to compete with 3D digital cameras emerging in the market, the likes of which include Fujifilm’s Real 3D W1. It’s worth noting that Sony is already deep into 3D consumer camera development, although it’s likely the first 3D camera to roll off its presses will be a DSLR.
Imamura also claimed during the interview that Sony will continue to partner with Carl Zeiss when it comes to the lenses for their mirrorless interchangeable lens camera. Should be good news for fans of Sony’s cameras.
At this point, though, there’s no way of knowing when the next Sony camera will hit store shelves, as well as whether the camera is going to be a mirrorless Carl Zeiss-lens camera or a simpler point-and-shoot 3D camera. We’ll just have to wait and see.
