Sony S1 Playstation Tablet Leaked

Sony has always been a big player in the technology world with all their various devices and finally, their product line has expanded into a new niche with the company now developing a tablet computer. This tablet which will be known as the S1 Playstation will have strong tie-ins with some of Sony’s other properties.

It will be a game focussed device that is compatible with Playstation games and there will also be support for Sony music and electronic books. On demand video will also be available through another proprietary Sony European property called Qriocity which is a subscription based service.

The Sony tablet will run on the Android 3.0 Honeycomb operating system and is powered by a Tegra 2 processor. The display screen is 9.4-inches in size and Sony is expected to customize the user interface to make it more Sony friendly, with the company drawing in expertise from developers involved with Sony Ericsson, VAIO, Playstation and Reader. Like many tablets that come on the market these days, this one wants to be an ‘iPad killer’.

The S1 Playstation certainly has a unique form factor with the mock-up received showing a curved top surface that draws its inspiration from a paperback book that is open and folded back onto its spine. The tablet will also have two cameras, front and rear, for video chat conferencing as well as a USB-A data port for flash drives. Finally, Sony will also build in an infrared port that will allow the S1 to function as a remote control for Sony Bravia television sets.

The Sony S1 Playstation will sell for approximately $599 with shipment expected for this fall.
