Google’s next version of the Android operating system is being evaluated by phone makers around the world as customers look forward to the new features that Android 4.0 or Ice Cream Sandwich will deliver. LG and Sony Ericsson are two of the hardware makers that are finalizing their plans for ICS and we have new details from both companies.
LG turned to the social networking site Facebook to confirm that Android 4.0 will be coming to LG phones shortly. The specific models that they quoted were all in the Optimus series and included the Optimus LTE, Optimus 2X, Optimus 3D and the Optimus Black. We also know that the Android updates have been scheduled for December, but the exact dates are still to be determined. In addition to this, LG has also confirmed that they are evaluating their other Android phones to see if they meet the minimum requirements to run ICS and if there will be any compatibility issues.
For Sony Ericsson, the details were a bit sketchier. Yes, Android 4.0 is also on the way for SE phones, but the update window for ICS on their Xperia phones won’t occur until next year and most likely, not until March. Others such as Motorola will be sandwiched somewhere in between LG and Sony Ericsson in terms of their timing for Android update. As mentioned, the details are still murky, but I’m sure we’ll hear more about this in the weeks and months to follow.
