Today, Slacker Radio made good on a promise that they made during the Consumer Electronics Show last month. With their announcement of the availability of Slacker Radio Version 2.0 for Android handsets comes a feature that Slacker fans have been waiting for and that is station caching.
Station caching means that you can enjoy your Slacker service even if you lose your signal, regardless of if it is due to being in a remote area where signal strength is weak or perhaps your network connection was lost while on the local transit system. With station caching, a copy of your music playlist is stored locally while an auto-cache feature will download music from your preferred stations through the night. This feature can also be configured from automatic downloads to manual downloads to suit personal preferences.
The new station caching feature does require a Slacker Radio Plus subscription which comes with a monthly fee of $4.99 or you can choose the annual fee of $47.88 which works out to about two months of free service. With the plus subscription, users get a few extra perks such as ad-free music, unlimited skips as well as the full lyrics to music pieces. If the Plus subscription doesn’t sound enticing to you, you can still try out the caching feature free with a 14 day trial that is available with a Slacker basic account.
