Seagate, a company known for their storage solutions has confirmed their new GoFlex mobile wireless storage device. Their new product, which was first identified last week through an FCC document specifically caters to iOS devices such as the iPad.
However, because of the integrated 802.11 b/g/n wireless support, the Seagate storage device is not just limited to Apple products, but is also compatible with any device that has wireless capabilities. The storage drive includes 500GB of free space, meaning that it can hold more then 15x that of a 32GB iPhone 4 and 8x more then a 64GB iPad.
For the average iOS user, this 500GB drive should be sufficient to save their full iTunes library, including music, videos, pictures and other digital data. The GoFlex Satellite, which will sell for $199 will also come with a rechargeable battery that will offer mobile users up to 5 hours of active use or 25 hours in stand by mode.
In order to use the device, customers will be required to install a GoFlex Media app which is a free app. Expect to see the device launch this July at which time it will be available through the usual outlets including Seagate.com, BestBuy, Amazon and other retail outlets.
