World's thinnest hard drive

Momentus Thin is a Seagate 2.5-inch laptop hard drive and its claim to fame is that at just 7mm thick, it is the thinnest notebook hard drive available on the market. The new hard drive is now 25% slimmer then the companies earlier hard drives that measure 9.5mm in thickness.

By dropping the size of the hard drive, the Momentus Thin is now roughly the size of solid state drives (SSD) that are available, but the new hard drive maintains the benefits observed with traditional hard drives such as larger drive sizes and lower cost per GB storage.

The 5400 RPM Seagate drive will be available in two drive sizes, 160GB and 250GB and will include 8MB cache memory as well as support for SATA 3Gbps.

Both drives will be available this January 2010 with the 250GB retailing for $55. There is no pricing available for the 160GB hard drive at this time, but it should be even cheaper.
