Seagate has launched their new hard drive that belongs to the Barracuda family. The new 3.5″ hard disk is expected to “meet the capacity demands of gaming, digital video-environments and other storage-hungry desktop computing applications while delivering the highest performance in its class” and the specifications of the drive certainly substantiate this claim.
The Seagate Barracuda XT hard drive has a theoretical maximum transfer speed of 6Gb per second via the SATA interface, includes 2TB of storage capacity and has a spindle speed of 7200RPM.
The new drive has backward compatibility with SATA 3Gb/second and SATA 1.5Gb/second interfaces for pc applications, but if you want to take full advantage of the high speeds offered by this hard drive, you will need a new motherboard such as an Asus or Gigabyte that supports SATA 6Gb/s.
The Barracuda XT hard drive has a retail price of $299.
