Today is the day that Apple is holding their education event in New York city. The event, which is currently underway is taking place at the Guggenheim Museum and one of the recent speakers on behalf of Apple was Phil Schiller.
Schiller who is Apple’s vice president for global marketing brought some interesting stats that relate to the US education system. Not only did Schiller confirm that the US is “not at the top of the industrialized nations”, but he also added that only 7 out of every 10 freshmen graduate. Although Schiller did indicate that this educational issue is not something that can be fixed by one company or one policy, it is something that Cupertino would like to try and address.
According to Apple’s research, the iPad is on the top of many student’s wish lists and Apple would like to see their tablet integrated better into the educational curriculum. Schiller went on to say that the iPad already has a strong focus on education and within the app store itself, there are now 20,000 apps that are dedicated to education. In addition to this, more then 1.5 million iPads are being used in academic settings and the iBookstore has been loaded up with books.
