SanDisk has launched a special class of SD memory cards that have been developed to preserve sensitive data for 100 years or longer. You may wonder why would anyone want to save data for such a long period of time, but the cards will be invaluable for forensic applications. The cards, which are available in a storage capacity of only 1GB size are known as the SanDisk SD WORM.
With these cards, digital content can only be written once, but the cards do support multiple read requests. Hence, the cards offer tamper-proof storage of information (or evidence) that could be extremely important in a court case. The SanDisk card is compatible with all SD readers but in order to write data to them, you must have an SD WORM-compatible device.
The cards will not be made available to the general public but volume discounts are available for large orders made by approved customers. Currently, the cards are shipping to police departments throughout Japan.
