SanDisk Ventures Into Music With SlotMusic

SanDisk announced this morning the release of SlotMusic, a new initiative to place entire music albums onto MicroSD cards. This venture has the backing of four major music labels including EMI Music, SONY BMG, Universal Music Group and Warner Music Group. SlotMusic will be available at Wal-Mart and Best Buy stores later this year.
SlotMusic is an effort by the recording industry to offset declining CD sales by targeting the cellphone market which have MicroSD card slots. Each card will also come with a USB adapter so as to allow the consumer to connect the card to a personal computer.
SanDisk and the major labels will be going out of their way not to frustrate consumers with the challenges they currently face with digital music. As such, it is expected that pricing for SlotMusic will be in the $7-$10 range, there will be no DRM restrictions and the product will be easier to use then trying to download music and subsequently transferring it to a cell phone.
