Samsung's Point And Shoot SL630

Samsung is adding a new compact digital camera to it’s SL-series. The new model, SL630 features a slim design measuring in at 0.8-inches thin and includes a 2.7-inch LCD display screen with 230k pixels.

Although thin, the new Samsung camera includes a hefty 12.2-megapixel sensor and a proprietary 28mm-wide angle lens with five times zoom that has been developed by Samsung themselves, forgoing the more traditional Ziess or Schneider Kreuznach lens that we’ve been accustomed to seeing.

The SL630 also comes with dual image stabilization, the optical IS accounting for the unsteady hands of the photographer while the digital IS adds further stabilization using the on-board processor.

Rounding out the features are video recording capabilities though this is limited to 640 x 480 30 fps. The unit also comes with an all encompassing Perfect Portrait System that comprises of Beauty Shot, Blink Detection, Face Detection, Red Eye, and Smile Shot. Hopefully these features will assist in capturing the perfect picture, thereby reducing the amount of time you need to spend with photo editing software after the fact.

Expect to see this entry level camera some time in March, with pricing still to be announced.
